Our town wide food drive will be conducted from March 16 through March 30. We have collection sites throughout the town and we need teams of volunteers to collect from specific sites. The team will be responsible for collecting the canned good from their assigned sites, bring the collection to the food pantry, weigh and record the collection. Sorting and stocking will be done by other teams. It will be easiest, but not required, for the same volunteers to do the collection each day. With a team of 4 members, the list of sites can be split among the team.
The collection sites for the North team are: Blacksburg Pharmacy, Eats, Food Lion North Main, Food Lion Prices Fork, In Balance Yoga, Univ City Kroger, Weight Club, Cabo Fish Taco, Bottom of the Stairs, Top of the Stairs, PKs, Counseling Center on Gilbert Street
The procedure will be:
- Get collection boxes from the food pantry
- Go to the collection sites and empty the donations into the box retrieved from the food pantry
- Bring the donations back to the food pantry
- Weigh the donations and, ideally, track by collection site location
- Record the donations
The collection time is flexible for the team. We only ask that that the items be at the food pantry by 12:00 pm for the sorting team to process. The time for the shift is an estimate and should be significantly less if we have 4 team members splitting the list of collection sites.
